Challenge

In post-conflict Afghanistan, rural communities faced major disruptions in food production and supply chains. Traditional food processing methods were insufficient to meet nutritional and economic needs, especially for women-led agricultural cooperatives. Key issues included:

• Outdated or broken processing machinery
• Lack of skilled technicians to install or maintain modern equipment
• Low production capacity impacting food security and livelihoods

Our Solution

Rapanelli Procurement was contracted to upgrade and commission food processing equipment tailored to local needs and resource conditions.

Key Contributions:

Supply and upgrade of small-to-medium scale food processing units (flour mills, mixers, etc.)

• On-site commissioning by certified technical instructors
• Hands-on training for local operators to ensure safe and effective use
• Adaptation for rural infrastructure, including equipment designed for off-grid use

Results

• All equipment delivered and commissioned successfully
• Over 20 local operators trained, including women-led cooperatives
• Local production capacity increased within months of implementation

Impact

The intervention contributed to early-stage agricultural recovery and food processing self-sufficiency in target districts. Trained technicians continued to support maintenance beyond the scope of the project, ensuring sustainability.
